What is PTSD Treatment?
PTSD treatment is an individualized plan to reduce trauma-related symptoms such as intrusive memories, hypervigilance, sleep disturbance, and mood changes. It typically combines medication management with trauma-focused therapy and treatment of any co-occurring conditions.
Medication can reduce the symptoms that make trauma challenging to live with, like the nightmares, the startle response, and the constant edge, which often makes the deeper work of therapy more possible. We coordinate closely with your therapist so the two kinds of care support each other.
Care is led by Dr. Aminata Kamara, a board-certified psychiatric and family nurse practitioner (PMHNP), alongside our clinical team.

Does this sound like you?
PTSD is more than remembering a painful event. Day to day, it can feel like:
You experience intrusive memories, flashbacks, or nightmares
You avoid reminders of the trauma
You feel hyperaroused, on guard, or easily startled
You notice negative changes in mood, thinking, or sense of safety
You feel numb, detached, or cut off from the people around you

Symptoms of PTSD
Intrusive memories and flashbacks
When the past keeps breaking into the present without warning.
Hypervigilance and startle
The constant sense of being on guard, braced for danger that may not come.
Nightmares and sleep disruption
When trauma follows you into the night and real rest is hard to find.
Avoidance and numbness
When staying away from reminders, or shutting down, becomes how you cope.
Co-occurring anxiety or depression
When PTSD travels with anxiety or low mood, which is common, and needs a plan that treats both.
How We Approach Your Care
We start by understanding you
We take time to understand how trauma is affecting you now, only as much as you want to share, and what you have already tried.
We explain what we find
We focus first on easing the symptoms that make daily life hard, so you can feel safer and steadier.
We find the right medication
Medication can ease nightmares, hypervigilance, and mood symptoms, and we prescribe and adjust it carefully.
We pair medication with support
Medication supports the work, and we coordinate closely with your trauma therapist so the two reinforce each other.
We stay with you
Healing from trauma takes time, so we move at your pace and keep adjusting as you regain your footing.

We're a good fit for you, if:
You're an adult, teen, or child (age 5 and up) living with the effects of trauma
Trauma symptoms are disrupting your sleep, safety, or relationships
You want your medication and trauma therapy to work as one

The memories lose some of their grip, and the past feels more like the past.
Your body stops bracing for danger that is not there.
Sleep comes easier, with fewer nights stolen by nightmares.
You start to feel close to people again instead of cut off.
You feel safer. More at home in your own life.
You build a sense of safety that holds, so reminders carry less power.

PTSD Treatment FAQs
How is PTSD treated by a psychiatric provider?
We use medication to ease symptoms like nightmares, hypervigilance, and mood changes, and we coordinate with your trauma therapist. We tailor the plan to you and move at a pace that feels safe.
Do I have to talk about my trauma to get help?
Not in detail, and not before you are ready. We focus on easing your symptoms, and the deeper processing happens in trauma therapy, at your pace. You stay in control of what you share.
What if past medications haven't worked?
That's common. The right plan is often a matter of fit. We monitor closely, adjust as needed, and can use pharmacogenomic (GeneSight) testing to help guide medication choice.
Can I get PTSD treatment online in North Dakota or Minnesota?
Yes. We provide treatment and medication management in person in Fargo and online anywhere in North Dakota and Minnesota.

We accept most major insurance plans across North Dakota and Minnesota, along with self-pay.
